  1. Ever notice how you can have a lot of memory in your computer but yet it still seems to lag at times? Part of the problem is that Windows uses a thing called 'Virtual memory'. What is it? Really it's a file on one or more of your hard drives chewing up space and time. It's a necessary evil in most cases but you CAN have some control over it. You can change the virtual memory settings by going to the System Properties (Windows Key + Break), Advanced (tab or link), choosing the Settings button under Performance, 'Advanced' tab, then clicking the 'Change' button under 'Virtual Memory'. From the resulting window, you will see a list of all available drives and the paging file size if that drive is being used at all. You can set which drives will be used for virtual memory and how to allocate the space for it. So what now? Well, the best solution is to have a speed test done on all available drives and select the best drive (or best two drives) to use. If you only have one drive listed, then you only have one choice so there's no point in deciding. If you're not sure how to test the drives then don't worry about it, just use the default Windows drive (usually 'C:'). Now the big question, which setting to use. Even if you're running Windows XP with 3 Gigs of RAM or Windows 7 with 16 Gigs of RAM, it's recommended that you have Virtual Memory enabled. Some problems experience problems if it's off even if you have more than enough memory, while at other times having it enabled may just save your butt when you least expect it. So in short, it's not a good idea to turn off turn off virtual memory on all drives, but you can if you want. If you're going to use a drive for virtual memory, I personally recommend selecting 'Custom size'. Then you just need to decide how much of the hard drive space you want to reserve. Don't let the initial and maximum size choices fool you. It's best to keep both values the same. If you set the maximum size to be different than the initial size, then Windows will end up using resources to resize the virtual memory file to be bigger or smaller, as needed. If the file is set to one size (initial and maximum), then once the space is reserved, it won't be resized as needed, meaning you get slightly better system performance. How much space to use is sometimes a tricky question. I personally recommend 4096 MB or more in increments of 1024 MB (5120 MB, 6144 MB, 7168 MB, 8192 MB, etc). If you decide to use less than 4096 MB, then set it for as much as you can, not going below 1024 MB. Yes, I know that it eats up some of your hard drive space, but anything less than 1024 MB is pointless to be honest. Also, you should set your virtual memory size to be no less than your installed memory. If you have 2048 MB installed, then don't set your virtual memory to be 1024 MB. What that will do, in essence, is limit your free RAM to be only 1024 MB as well. The other 1024 MB is being traded back and forth with the virtual memory. If you have the size set to 4096 MB, then if necessary, Windows can move 'everything' that is in RAM to the virtual memory, with plenty of room to spare for more, freeing up the 2048 MB you have installed. Think of it as having a small desk compared to a large table. As you need the space in front of you, you can move papers and other items aside and grab back things that you want as you need them. If you have two spots to use in front of you and only one spot to put something temporarily, then once you've filled your two spots, if you need another, you can only free up one. If you have four 'virtual' spots, then you can have both freed up. Keep in mind that virtual memory is actually much more complex than described in the above paragraph. I'm trying to keep it simple to make it easier to understand and because I don't feel like researching the details myself. For arguments sake, let's say you are going to use 4096 MB as the size. You need to enter 4096 into both the Initial size and Maximum size boxes. Next you need to click the 'Set' button. If you want to change the settings for other drives, then select those drives and make the changes as desired. When you're done, click the "OK" buttons to finish up. You may get a prompt informing you that you need to restart the computer for the changes to take affect. So decide when you want to restart the computer and then when you are up and running again, you should notice a slight improvement in your computers speed. This will be because Windows isn't busy resizing the virtual memory file(s) from time to time. Instead, the files are a set size and so any access to the file(s) are for it's main purpose - to be additional computer memory. Click here to view the article
  2. I got the reference, but you two seemed to be yelling it back and forth like you were both 'getting off' from saying it.
  3. You two hooked up? Hope you used protection. :Big Grin: Get a room you two.
  4. That many eh? That's nothing. Wait until he comes up with some explanation as to why he's been acting this way and you want to trust him no matter how much you know deep down that there's something that he's not telling you.. Or you show a distrust to him when deep down you know that you're probably only being paranoid..
  5. Source: http://www.wect.com/Global/story.asp?S=13826094 There is a video of the report on the WECT site that is worth watching. Reposted with permission. I swear when I see that chicken, I can't help but want some chicken nuggets.
  6. Don't you mean that he can't keep up with your words and you can't understand his? If you're faster and he's slower, then you'd have no problem keeping up. So you'll be crushed and damned if it isn't unsuccessful? Sure you didn't mean 'kind'? TMI.
  7. So how many boyfriends and girlfriends do you have?
  8. Would you believe that several days ago, I got another one of these messages, this time to contact someone with the screenname of hooterskalee. Not sure how they got my s/n to begin with but it'd totally rock if some of these spammers/scammers could be found and then have the holy crap beat out of them. If that were to become the known result of doing this crap, then a lot of those doing it might think twice about continuing their activities. All names used so far: princesstera206, princesstera86, princesstera207, hooterskalee, elisabethodux, erminv7597, ferrelka573 and thunderbaby19510
  9. You need to move on. (j/k) You could always toss it back at him. Next time he's like, "You need to move on", just be like, "Oh so that's how you got over your granddad dying, you just tossed him aside and moved on eh?" I'm sure the sting will pluck that right nerve where you can comment that it pisses you off when he tells you to move on as though grieving is a bad thing. Anniversary? When did you get married?
  10. Okay so was out and about today. While on the interstate heading to a store, I saw this truck (similar in style to a big U-Haul truck) that was tailgating people. First I noticed him in the far right lane, maybe 10 ft behind the car if not closer. Keep in mind that this is on the interstate, where the speed limit is 55/65 MPH and people tend to go a little over the speed limit. So anyway, he merged to the middle lane and proceeded to tailgate the person just ahead of him. I don't blame that person for merging to another lane to avoid being tailgated, because if he were to have to slam on the breaks, that'd be the end of him and his minivan. So I kept an eye on the vehicle and managed to see a number to call and reported the vehicle. Now, I didn't get the sense that this driver was aggressive at all, like he felt he owned the road or anything, just disturbing that he was tailgating as though he was driving a vehicle that could stop on a dime. Okay so after taking care of business, I headed back to the interstate. Where I was getting on, there were basically three lanes for the on ramp. One from the east bound traffic and two from the west bound, separated by a concrete median strip, with the two left lanes (from west bound traffic) merging together and then the two sides merging before meeting alongside the interstate for merging there. Whew! Anyway, this a-hole behind me cuts across the strip and guns it so that he can cut me off and beat me to getting onto the interstate. A few minutes later I managed to pass by him and leave him behind like the loser he is. What I want to know is, what was the point of all that? He was in some sort of a hurry to end up behind me in the end so what was he hoping to accomplish? If he wanted to feel like a hotshot for a minute only to look like a donkeys rear afterward, then he managed to do that perfectly. Now don't get me wrong, I know I'm not a perfect driver by any means, but there are things that people do that just makes no sense to me and I seriously would love to understand it. On to an honorable mention here. This self important person showed some mental progress. I was going to a store to grab a few things to eat and what should I see but a car in the fire lane almost right in front of the doorway. They had their hazards on and were in the drivers seat, so I presume they were waiting for someone to come out of the store. So I pulled up behind them to act like I'm stupid (as though I didn't get the hint from their blinkers) and a moment later, they started moving! They actually moved out of the way and I'm guessing they came up with the brilliant idea (albeit obscenely obvious concept) of idling somewhere that is OUT OF THE WAY until the person they are waiting for comes out of the store. Nah, really? You mean that waiting off to the side so you're not being a rude ass is actually a good idea?!? WOW! When I'm being a taxi for someone and I don't want to go into the store with them, I try to stay close but out of the way. I'll idle in multiple spaces away from other cars if necessary but if possible I'll idle in a reserved spot of some sort (ready to pull out if necessary). I don't interrupt the flow of traffic and can't understand why others do it.
  11. That's the way you're supposed to drive anyways. I think it'd be so awesome to have a vehicle that was indestructible like KITT. Built real sturdy and then just drive around and if someone is driving recklessly, let them plow/merge into the vehicle and when their car is basically damaged to a point of not being able to drive it, maybe they'll realize that they need to be more respectful on the road. I also think it'd be awesome if there was some vigilante that would chase down butthole drivers and then disable their vehicles. Not hurt the person driving, but just like carefully get their vehicle to the side of the road and then like slash the tires. Let that happen a few times to a person and I bet that they'll start being better drivers because they can't afford to keep replacing tires to stay on the road. Not that I'm encouraging someone to actually do that, just it'd be funny to see new reports of things like that happening where the vigilante is only getting buttholes and dangerous drivers off of the roads, causing no harm to people and even somehow getting videos sent in to TV stations so that the 'victims' can't claim that they don't know why they were attacked. Once it's known that such bad driving attracts the attention of the vigilantes, more people would drive better in order to avoid the issues. Sometimes though I wish I had a video camera recording what's going on around me while I'm driving, then when something memorable happens, I could hit a button and the past two minutes would be saved and would continue to record until I hit the button again. Then I could upload it to YouTube and eventually people that know them would see their driving and give them hell about it.
  12. Believe it or not, but many sites use a feature to hide replies from guests and specific groups, which is what the mod was initially designed to do. It was asked to be able to hide the first post but not the replies to it. No where in the description is it said to hide individual posts. Sorry if you feel you were misled on the item though. As far as being able to hide individual posts, it's something I can look into. No promises though, so if I can't find a way to make it work, please don't be disappointed.
  13. Okay this isn't so much about driving as it is about parking. I recently went to a local grocery store and someone was not only parked in the fire lane and not only parked right in front of the doors (so you have to go out of your way to get around them to get in/out of the store), but also in such a way that you had to drive in the opposite lane to get past their vehicle. So I managed to park and then the lady driving the vehicle was starting to leave and I gave her this evil look and as she was starting to pass she stopped and asked what was wrong and I told her that the fire lane wasn't her personal parking space. She was like, "Excuse me?" and I repeated it to her. For some reason, people (at least around here) have gotten it into their heads that the fire lane, right in front of the doors, is their personal parking space. That somehow the rules of parking don't apply to them. It's bad enough to park in the fire lane, but to me it's only acceptable if the person is making a delivery (food delivery for example) and so they shouldn't be expected to park and it's somewhat acceptable if they don't park in a way that makes it inconvenient for others. I'm talking about out of the way to both drivers AND those trying to get in/out of the store. Another little pet peeve about parking... Why the hell can't people push their carts either back to the store OR the few extra feet away to one of those little cart buggies or whatever they're called? I've literally seen someone finish putting groceries into their vehicle, push their care behind another vehicle that is next to them, then get into their vehicle and leave. My gawd, one of those little cart centers was only an extra 20 to 30 feet away, not like it was any great amount of distance! I don't remember if I posted this but I also encountered a smoker who flicked her lit cigarette onto the ground before going into a store. I kept an eye out for her and when she came back out, I got out of my car, ran out, picked up the cigarette and was like, "Excuse me!" to get her attention and then told her she had forgotten her cigarette. Small little exchange but I certainly hope it made her feel ashamed for what she had done. I doubt it but I can still hope.
  14. Okay so it recently snowed here and I got a huge laugh from the news about this. Apparently there were a large number of accidents reported and I think a majority of those accidents were from people not knowing how to drive in the snow. I'd like to add my own little correction to that though. It's from people NOT KNOWING HOW TO DRIVE! Don't add anything about snow into that comment, because if those idiots knew how to drive, they'd know that they have to be even more careful when driving in the white stuff than when driving in the rain. I always love the first snow of the season, because then the idiots get into wrecks and are either out of commission for a few days (no car to drive) or they realize that they need to drive VERY carefully. For those few that are egotistical enough to believe that it wasn't their fault, they soon enough will get into another accident and then their skyrocketing insurance premiums will force them to be more careful. At any rate, after the first day of the first snow of the season, around here it usually becomes safe to drive in the mess because those who are still driving in it have learned the need for caution and those who haven't driven in it yet are usually those who know better than to go out during the first day unless necessary. If only I could have a super HD camera and be somewhere that a lot of accidents happen, be funny to record it and then when they are saying that they were driving cautiously, to play it back and be like, "Um, does that really look like you were driving safely? I swear it looks like you were flying down the road and then tried to slam on your brakes, only to skid around and plow into those cars.."
  15. I rarely go to watch movies at the theater and in fact haven't been in awhile. However something that someone mentioned that happened to them reminded me of some irritations of going to watch movies on the big screen. People who annoy me at theaters... People on cell phones. I'm not referring to people who quietly answer their phone, mention that they're in the theater and are usually off the phone within a minute of answering. They might be answering the phone to make sure there's not an emergency of some sort. No, I'm referring to the people who have the ringer on full blast, don't turn it down, answer it and carry on a conversation with a voice that is loud enough to be disruptive for several rows/aisles. These are the imbeciles that make it necessary to have little devices that can disrupt cell phone signals but are also the same people who complain about such devices so that those devices are illegal. But heaven forbid that there should be any rules or laws to limit their phone usage no matter how inconsiderate it may be towards others! People with kids. I'm talking about those with kids that run around and don't know how to behave. Before anything is shown on the screen, that's one thing and I can understand there being some wiggle room on what should be tolerated. But once the trailers start, those kids need to be in their seats and any talking they do need to be limited and in whispered voices. If it's a kids movie and something funny happens, then yes I understand that a lot of the kids will laugh. Heck, I can even understand if a whole lot of the kids yell out at certain parts of the movie (like if the actor in the movie asks the kids "Should I do (whatever)?" and all the kids yell "YES!" or "NO!"). But that's pretty much it. When your kid is talking loudly during the trailers, they are ruining the experience for everyone. That kid might be talking while people are trying to listen to certain dialog and they're going to miss it because of that kid. It's even worse when the movie is well beyond their years and the kid is old enough to either start asking questions (Mommy, why are those two men naked in bed with each other?) or to be bored to tears (Mommy when is it going to be over?). If it's a little baby or a little toddler and they are sleeping, then that's different. Don't get me started on those parents who refuse to remove their crying child from the theater! Tall people or exploding hairstyles/hats. These people need to learn to sit their asses in the extreme BACK of the theater, because when I can't see the screen, then there's a problem. People who have Marge Simpson style hairdos need to remember that others behind them will be missing 90% of the movie no matter where they sit unless it's in the last row or in some cases they are sitting next to the wall. We're not from Krypton lady, we don't have X-ray vision! Seat hoppers. These people get up to leave and then return more times in 90 minutes (bathroom calls, food runs, etc) than I do in an entire day. These people need to get an aisle seat so that they won't be disrupting everyone else. Groups. I understand that people may all band together to watch a movie for an enhanced experience, but you either seat yourselves in such a way that you all can talk quietly amongst yourselves or you need to just STFU. Sex fiends. Look, if she's ugly, I don't wanna see her getting pumped by you. If she's hot, then unless I'm gonna get to tap it, I don't wanna see it because then I'll be distracted by it for the rest of the movie and won't get to enjoy what I wanted to see to begin with. Only exception (aside from me being allowed to hit it as well) is if the movie turns out to be morbidly horrible, then the side show will be a welcome change. If it's two hot chicks getting in one with one another, then that's another possible exception. Spoilers. I don't care if you HAVE seen the movie 23 times. This is my first time watching it and I'd rather watch it than to heard your loud f'ing mouth tell me what's about to happen! Complainers. These are the people that will take ANYTHING and turn it into a catastrophe of some sort. One time I went to watch a movie and someone had turned on the lights during the movie. The whole incident was over with in under a minute. Later on, a couple of people who saw the movie were complaining to a manager saying that it went on for five or so minutes. I'm thinking, "Okay, I can understand that you want to get free tickets because of the incident, but saying it was five minutes is a f'ing lie!" These are also the same people that would complain that silk feels too slippery or that stainless steel is too hard. They'd complain about how they weren't murdered correctly if they could talk from the grave. Okay I think I've covered my list of peeves for theaters. Haven't really had an issue with the sex fiends one, but it has crossed my mind that some people do that during a movie and I'd really rather watch the movie unless she's hot and I'm gonna get to tap it.
  16. You just want him for his body.
  17. For all of December, there is a coupon to get 50% off of all regular hooks* in the store. You may use this coupon as many times as you want (so if you use it and decide to buy another mod, you can use the coupon again). The coupon code is Dec2010 and will work for all regular hooks*. * Regular hooks do not include source code purchases.
  18. Within the last couple of weeks, I had random AIM SN's sending me an IM with a message like this, "instant message princesstera86 they met you somewhere" and a few seconds later, they would be logged off. I know it's bullcrap because I don't go out places announcing my SN so it's nothing but a lie. So after getting annoyed with it, I decided to 'play along', sorta. Here is a log of the conversation, you'll notice that the responses from 'princesstera' show absolutely no regard for what I'm saying, which is proof that it's nothing but a bot. IMPORTANT * The following has been edited: I changed my SN to 'Wolfie' and I colored the names to make it easier to read. As far as actual content of what was said and when, nothing has been changed. * There is a link supplied by the offender. I have not clicked on it and I do not recommend clicking on it. So if you get an IM telling you to IM princesstera86 or someone else, that's what you'll get. IMPORTANT!! If you decide to click on the link, do NOT provide any real information to set up an account. I don't know if it's out to steal your ID/PW so it can steal your AIM SN or if it's out to get credit card info to steal money or even steal your identity. Irregardless, don't give it any information that it can make use of!
  19. The most amazing guys would say that you don't give them the time of day because of their looks. The hot guys wouldn't give a crap because they're jerks. The ugly ones are too nice to tell you the painful truth. The funny guys would say you need to put out more. The right guy is obviously not the right guy (for you) if you don't exist in his world.
