  1. actually, i think it made her snoop more.
  2. its better reading this on here than listening to it on the phone =P i almost got killed today by the worst driver i know. he never pays attention. he hit a car the first time he took his driving test and failed it another time before they gave him his license. then he flipped his car and gave his then girlfriend a concussion, but of course, according to him, it's always someone else's fault. that really bad accident, for instance, occurred when he ran a stop sign. if you ask him what happened, he insists he doesn't remember running the stop sign, but because the other driver admitted he was speeding, it must be all his fault (it was a stop sign that t'd with non-stop traffic...) today it was just him driving on the wrong side of the road.. on a blind corner..
  3. Stem cells from embryo created without sperm US scientists have isolated stem cells from monkey embryos created using only an egg. They then coaxed these stem cells into taking on the characteristics of neurons, heart muscle and other tissue types. The embryos were generated through a process called parthenogenesis, in which the egg is never fertilized, but instead duplicates one set of chromosomes. That duplication is lethal, because two maternal sets of chromosomes are incompatible. But the so-called "parthenote" that results still develops far enough so that the equivalent of embryonic stem cells can be harvested from it. The breakthrough by researchers at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, in North Carolina, and Advanced Cell Technology in Massachusetts, was first reported in New Scientist in October 2001. It provides a way of obtaining embryonic stem cells (ESCs) without destroying a potential life. Research involving ESCs is ethically controversial, because it involves the destruction of an embryo that could develop into a child. Therapeutic cloning - which would involve creating a cloned embryo of a patient, to act as a source of compatible stem cells for treatment - is similarly problematic. The new cells seem to have very similar properties to regular embryonic stem cells, the scientists report. They can grow as an undifferentiated cell line, which means that the cells can remain as "blank slates" in the culture dish. But they can also be coaxed into becoming cells with the characteristics of neurons, heart muscle and other tissue types. No assumptions "This line seems to be ideally suited to develop tissue [replacement] therapy for neural diseases such as Parkinsons'," says researcher Kathleen A. Grant of Wake Forest University. The researchers believe there is no reason why similar cells could not be derived from humans. In fact, in November 2001, ACT reported the successful creation of human parthenotes - although no stem cells were derived from them. The research is a welcome step forward, says Azim Surani of the The Wellcome Trust and Cancer Research Campaign Institute of Cancer and Developmental Biology in Cambridge. But before any therapeutic applications are developed, it is important to make sure that the cells function normally, he warns. That is especially important with cells derived through parthenogenesis, because they have two sets of female chromosomes, instead of one set each from a male and a female. Surani did extensive experiments in the 1980s with similar cells from mice. He says it was relatively simple to transform them into certain tissues, like neurons. But he had less success at making others, such as muscle. "We should be aware that there are differences between normal ES cells and parthenogenetically-derived cells," says Surani. "We can't assume they are perfectly all right." Journal reference: Science (vol 295, p8) http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn1871
  4. i've met a few genuinely religious people who don't push their beliefs on anyone and are truly interested in helping others, and i really respect those people as well, but around here, its very few compared to those who want to form an army.
  5. i hope the wife put the camera in there. then, not only does she have proof that her husband's cheating, but she exposes it to the world and embarrasses him. that's a good way to get even.
  6. i used to be like that, but after my mom found a pregnancy test, there wasn't much else that she could find that would scare me.
  7. yeah you showed me that before. i think it's the whole evangelical aspect of the religion that runs people away. i don't think i could be happy being part of a religion that encouraged me to go out and shove ideas in people's heads.
  8. probably not. it just gets confusing. she doesn't actually clean it. she'll just fold clothes and make my bed. i excavate once or twice a year. =P
  9. tell them you're a guy. or make something else up. my friend and i used to always make up the most ridiculous things when guys asked us what we looked like. we'd say we were from mars and had green skin and 5 eyes and stupid things like that. the thing is, with the language barrier, it ends up really funny.
  10. i'm really sick of people trying to shove their beliefs down my throat. as one of very few jews in a small town full of fundamentalist christians, i've had to deal with it most of my life. the first incident i remember was in 4th grade, when this girl came up to me and said, "i want to die before you." when i asked what she was going on about, i found out it was because she was told i was going to hell for not believing in jesus. i told her i couldn't go to a place i didn't believe in. that was the kind of stuff i dealt with until high school, when the real converters started to kick in. i had a kid in a couple classes who just couldn't fathom that i was happy with my religion. he even went as far as saying i'd understand an assignment more if i converted. we got little messages on our lockers around christmas time stating, "jesus is the reason for the season," and i was thrilled to watch one of the most religious people i know rip them down, screaming that she'd never force her beliefs on another person. then, there's the door to door jesus man. i've had two encounters with him, and he reminds me of some creepy creature out of buffy the vampire slayer. seriously. he has these piercing blue eyes, and he just stares you down. the first time it was, "do you ever wonder what happens to your loved ones when they die?" and the second time i got "have you heard about the apocalypse?" i wouldn't have minded as much had he stopped after i stated that i had a religion and that i was very happy with it. i ended up slamming the door in his face. i guess the real issue i have is that if these people are so in love with their religions, why aren't they doing what they preach instead of trying to get other people to do it? i mean, they could be out building homes for the homeless or feeding the hungry... you know, something that actually would be productive, but it seems like they're more interested in how many people they can convert. it's like they think god keeps tally and every time you convert something it's one more point on your way to heaven. i'd think god would be more interested in what you did to actually help the needy, no matter what their religious beliefs were.
  11. i'm sorry, but that's the gentlest looking "scary" person i've ever seen. i'm really sick of people seeing fat and automatically thinking OMG SCARY. yeah, the make up is a bit ridiculous, but give him a break. he's just trying to find a place he can fit in.
  12. i'm pretty sure they could keep that on record. they should just change the way they are set up then. i've also heard that its possible to make embryos from some part of women, so really you don't need the sperm at all. not that that woman should have a baby completely made from her dna..
  13. don't dis the turks! those guys are hot. i know from personal experience. meaning college. they can be real buttholes though.
  14. sometimes my cat snores. that's pretty strange. usually people snoring doesn't bother me, unless i'm at work and i need sleep, but i can't sleep because someone's snoring.
  15. i tend to live in an organized mess. my mom tends to try to clean it when i'm away at school, and then i can't find anything.
  16. people seem so desperate. obviously no one would let them adopt kids if they're that unstable that they're willing to kill someone to get a kid. maybe there's a reason they can't have them physically...
  17. at least they didn't succeed. that would have been horrific. who knows what would've happened to the real mom and the baby. i mean, they couldn't have expected that the baby would automatically live... it's just messed up. she should've just gone to a sperm bank.
  18. Police: Teens Took Pregnant Teen For Baby Motel Manager: Suspects Left Baby Items In Room POSTED: 4:06 pm CDT July 31, 2007 UPDATED: 4:09 pm CDT August 1, 2007 A pregnant woman was allegedly kidnapped and terrorized, all because she wanted to buy baby clothes, investigators said. A 19-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl sprayed the 18-year-old with pepper spray on Monday and took her to a Blue Springs, Mo., motel, where they planned to cut her baby from her womb and possibly kill her, according to authorities. Prosecutors charged Lauren M. Gash, 19, of Odessa, Mo., and Alisa D. Betts, 17, of Atchison, Kan., with felony kidnapping. Gash, 19, also faced one count of assault. They were arraigned Tuesday afternoon. The pair allegedly lured Amanda Howard, who was nine months pregnant, with an ad for baby clothes. The victim made contact with them through MySpace. Once at the motel, Gash allegedly sat on her abdomen and twisted her neck. Betts got cold feet, left the room and called 911, according to court documents. Officers found scissors, an Exacto knife and a tarp in the room, police said. "She actually put Amanda on the phone to relate to me the story, and it's just. It's absolutely terrifying," her former stepmother said. "It was good to hear her voice and to hear that she was doing well and the baby was doing well." The baby hadn't yet been born by Tuesday afternoon. Gash allegedly recently threw herself a baby shower and told her family she'd had a baby. "I think that Lauren lied to us all. I'm sorry to say it that way, because I love Lauren as if she was my own kids, but something's wrong," said Melissa Betts, Alisa Betts' mother. Gash was being held on $750,000 bond, and Betts was being held on $500,000 bond. They were both expected in court on Aug. 22. "The facts alleged in this case by the state are extremely disturbing," said Jim Kanatzer, the Jackson County prosecutor. "In my 15 years of prosecution, I've never seen anything like it." http://www.kctv5.com/news/13791754/detail.html (look at the gorgeous picture!) and a more detailed article.. Abducted Woman Rescued Before Baby Cut Out Two Teens Arrested At Missouri Hotel POSTED: 6:47 am EDT August 1, 2007 BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. -- Police on Tuesday said they saved a kidnapped pregnant woman just before her unborn baby was to be cut from her womb at a Missouri hotel. Blue Springs Detective Troy Pharr said two women were arrested at the Interstate Inn in Blue Springs on Monday afternoon. Lauren M. Gash, 19, of Odessa, was charged with kidnapping and first-degree assault. Alisa D. Betts, 17, of Atchison, Kan., was charged with kidnapping. Bond has been set at $750,000 cash only for Gash and $500,000 cash only for Betts. Pharr said Amanda Howard, 18, of Clinton, Mo., was found in the back of the hotel room and had duct tape around her neck. She had marks on her wrists and had been tied up, but she was not seriously injured, Pharr said. "I think they wanted the baby. I think Lauren wanted the baby," Pharr said. Police said they arrived just before the abductors were going to cut Howard, who is due to give birth next week. "This is a very scary case," Pharr said. "I think we made it there in just the nick of time." Gash had recently had a baby shower thrown in her honor, even though she is not pregnant, KMBC reported. Gash had been telling family members that she was pregnant and that she had recently delivered the baby by C-section at an Independence hospital, police said. Women Met On MySpace Howard told police she mad met Gash through an ad on MySpace.com about baby clothes. Police said Gash had given a false name on the Internet and promised to give Howard some things for her baby if she would come to Kansas City. Gash said she would pick up Howard in Clinton, drive her to Kansas City to pick up the baby items and then drive her back home. Howard told police that while they in the car on the way to Kansas City, Gash pepper-sprayed her and held her against her will. Howard said she was taken to the Interstate Inn, where Gash and Betts were going to cut the baby from her womb and leave her to die. Howard said she was tied up and that one of the women sat on top of her belly and twisted her head violently in an attempt to break her neck. Howard had been at the Inn for about 45 minutes when police knocked on the door and were able to stop the situation. "When we arrived at the scene, Lauren came to the door, the victim was in the bathroom -- she was very upset. She got her hands free while Lauren was away," Pharr said. Officer Brandon Shrout was one of the first officers at the hotel. He said they knocked on the door to the hotel room and it took several moments before Gash opened the door. He said when he first spoke to Gash, her face was flushed and she claimed her friend was screaming because she was having labor pains. Shrout said he saw Howard in the back part of the room and she was crying. "We noticed right off she was shaken, she was crying, she had tape around her neck. We separated (Gash and Howard). It took time to unravel things, but we figured it out. The look on Ms. Howard's face told the whole story," Shrout said. "I was shocked. I've been here 12 years, and I've never seen anything close to that, ever." Tipster Calls Police Pharr said police had received a tip that a woman was in a hotel room and was screaming loudly. The tipster said the woman was pregnant and may be going into labor. Pharr said police later learned Betts was the tipster who called police. He said Betts had gotten cold feet about the plan to cut out the baby, so she left the hotel room. Based on Howard's description, Betts was later arrested in the hotel complex. Detectives said they believe two men may also be involved in the plot. Fake Birth Certificate Found In Room During a search of the hotel room, detectives found rope, tape, scissors, an X-acto knife, medication and a vial of insulin. Police said they also found a fabricated birth certificate under the name of Johnny Gash. There was also a piece of paper with a baby's footprint pictured on it and a plastic armband typical of what is given to newborns in hospitals, Pharr said. 'Everything Looked Normal' Hotel employees said Gash and Betts had checked into the Inn on Sunday. "Their interaction was just talking back and forth like two people would -- giggling and talking about what they're going to do for the day. Never gave any indication that they had somebody held up in their room," a hotel employee told KMBC. A housekeeper said she saw baby blankets and a diaper bag in the room. "I went in myself, yesterday, and I exchanged towels out. Everything in the room looked normal. Looked like they had a baby, but there wasn't any baby that I saw," housekeeper Beth Lark said. "I never saw anything that would make me jump out and say, 'Maybe I should go get my boss.' There was nothing unusual in the room." Victim In 'Good Spirits' Howard, who graduated from Clinton High School in May, is expected to give birth to a boy next week. It will be her first child. Pharr said Howard is traumatized over the incident, but is recovering. "She is doing very well, all things considered. She's very strong. Her mother is with her. A sonogram was done on the baby; the baby is doing well," said Annette Howard, the victim's former stepmother. "She's in good spirits, and she's realizing what a lucky young lady she is." Annette Howard said the victim wants everyone to know to be very careful when meeting people online and to never go anywhere with someone you don't know. "She wants people to realize they need to listen to their instincts. She told me, 'My head told me not to do this, but my mouth said yes. I should have listened to my head,'" Annette Howard said. "It's absolutely terrifying. We just thank the Lord that she's the fighter she is." http://www.thebostonchannel.com/news/13795572/detail.html you'd think they'd at least have been smart enough to put the duct tape around her mouth and not her neck?
  19. it'd be worse if it were higher pitched, went on for longer, and you couldn't stop it.
